The National Dialogue Initiative
The National Dialogue Initiative, launched by Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi, aims to stabilise Iraq by inviting various political and societal groups to engage in a dialogue to address long-standing issues related to political and social instability arising from sectarian and partisan divisions. The initiative focused on adherence to the law, prioritising dialogue over violence, and promoting inclusiveness in the political process to lay the groundwork for fair elections and build a sustainable democratic system.
Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership
The Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, held on 28 August 2021, is part of Iraq's strategy to improve regional and international relations and support regional stability. The conference contributed to building bridges of understanding and partnership among the countries of the region, showcasing Iraq as a safe and stable state and opening doors to significant international investment.
The New Levant
The New Levant Initiative promotes regional cooperation among countries in the region by enhancing trade and technical exchanges, sharing security information, and expanding educational and cultural opportunities. This initiative aims to establish an integrated cooperation zone that leverages Iraq’s strategic location as a bridge between Arab, Turkish, and Iranian civilisations.
A Call for Peace and Tolerance
In July 2021, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi visited His Holiness Pope Francis. During their friendly discussions, they reflected on the Pope’s historic visit to Iraq and the moments of unity experienced by the Iraqi people. The talks also emphasised the importance of fostering a culture of national dialogue as a foundation for stability and the country's rebuilding process. Additionally, both leaders highlighted the significance of protecting the historical presence of Christians in Iraq.
Green Economy and Clean Energy
This initiative seeks to reduce Iraq’s reliance on oil by advancing the use of renewable energy sources, such as natural gas and solar power. It prioritises environmental protection, enhances water management, and promotes sustainable agriculture. Its implementation is structured in multiple phases, including gas investment, solar energy expansion, and the development of sustainable agricultural practices.
Regional Transit: Electricity, Roads, and Railways
This initiative seeks to establish Iraq as a regional transit hub by developing an integrated network of ports, railways, and highways, while also connecting the national electrical grid with neighbouring countries. It focuses on enhancing trade and energy cooperation while promoting regional integration. Key projects under this initiative include the Grand Faw Port, the expansion of Umm Qasr Port, and the development of electricity connections with the Gulf countries and Saudi Arabia.
